I spent the day at Glen Meadows, our 85-bed nursing home in Hamilton, Ohio. Chuck Powell is the nursing home administrator at Glen Meadows and he had me work alongside the most amazing nursing assistant by the name of Heather Cunningham. Heather is 32 years old, but when she was younger she was looking to become an STNA, but those plans were delayed as her and her husband began a family. Heather has two twin boys that are 14 and 12 years old. At 28 years old, Heather decided it was time to get the training and do what so many in her family do, become a care giver.
Within minutes of being with Heather, I could see and feel her compassion for her residents. She has a genuine loving approach with them that immediately puts the residents at ease. Her fellow staff members were extremely complimentary of Heather, her loving way with the residents, and her teamwork with them.
As we worked throughout the day an overwhelming sense of pride came over me. This is OUR caregiver. It is OUR responsibility to show gratitude toward her. She is loving and caring for OUR residents. She has chosen to be a part of OUR team.
Nina Colvin, a Senior Administrator for us in Northeast Ohio shared a letter she received the other day from an appreciative family member at a facility she oversees. I have attached a link to the facilities facebook page and the letter because it says everything I was feeling when working with Heather, only better.
